10 Reasons to have a solar installation for self-consumption

Energy independence

Solar photovoltaic energy is a great option to minimize your dependence on large electric companies or fossil fuels. Spain is one of the countries with the highest solar radiation in the EU as well as one of the countries within the EU with the highest energy dependence on third countries (around 70%), and every year we are transferring billions of euros from our economy to oil and gas producing countries, many with financial ties to global terrorism.

With the advent of the electric car and aerothermal energy, this dependence on electricity will increase, so with the development of high-production solar panels and increasingly efficient batteries, the future of single-family homes is increasingly linked to photovoltaic energy. As well as community consumption in residential areas, neighborhood communities or work environments.

Solar energy eliminates or drastically reduces your electricity bills

Electricity costs can make up a large part of a family’s or business’s overall budget. With solar energy you can generate free green energy during the 25-30 year lifetime of your installation. Even if you do not produce all the energy you need or if you produce more, you can store this energy or return it to the company receiving a compensation premium for these surpluses, your electricity bills will continue to be much lower and your savings will continue to grow year after year.

Return on your investment

Solar energy cannot be seen as an expense, but as an investment. If you are not willing to make the initial investment required to purchase a photovoltaic system, you can easily finance this investment.

In many ways, a solar photovoltaic installation is a financial product capable of generating annual returns ranging from 10% to over 30%. The substantial savings and photovoltaic potential in some areas are capable of generating very attractive returns and make solar technology one of the best ways to invest your money.

In addition, you can obtain tax rebates on municipal real estate tax rates. Check with your municipality, and receive subsidies from the EU “Next Generation” funds, which will help to redeem the investment sooner. Estimated payback periods are between 3 and 4 years.

Take care of the environment

Solar photovoltaic energy is the best way to reduce your carbon footprint. Buildings are responsible for about 40% of all CO2 emissions on the planet; by going for renewable energy and solar energy, this number can be significantly reduced. A typical residential solar installation can eliminate 3 to 4 tons of CO2 emissions annually, roughly equivalent to planting more than 100 trees each year.

Protects against rising electricity rates

Unexpected and constant increases in the price of electricity are a problem for anyone and a big problem for many tenants or businesses with high consumption. This makes managing a stable budget complicated and you feel helpless when faced with fluctuations that have nothing to do with you.

The use of solar energy as the main power source makes these costs more predictable and allows you to save in the long run, as you will no longer be subject to these price fluctuations.

Solar energy generates jobs and helps the local economy

Several studies predict that the renewable energy sector, including solar, will generate between 3 and 5 million “green” jobs in the next decade. Because these jobs usually require specific training, they tend to be better paid and, in general, cannot be outsourced, representing an important contribution to the local and national economy.

Solar energy increases the value of your property

Buildings and homes equipped with renewable systems, such as solar self-consumption, have valuations 3-4% higher than similar homes in the same area. They also sell twice as fast as the competition.

The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has published an article explaining how much the value of your property increases. For every euro you save through solar self-consumption, the value of your property will increase by around €20. On average, the sales value increases by €5,800 for each kWp installed. In other words, a typical single-family home with a 2kW solar self-consumption system will increase in value by €10,600. This data varies according to two parameters:

1

Size of the installation: the increase in sales value is directly proportional to the number of solar panels installed.

2

Home size: The larger the homes, the greater the nominal increase in value.

Build your brand, demonstrate commitment to sustainability through solar energy

Sustainability and corporate social responsibility are not only linked to an organization’s culture and values, but also produce end results. Consumers are increasingly recognizing and rewarding companies that choose to operate responsibly. Companies are finding that the “green economy” is a powerful factor in consumer purchasing decisions, creating goodwill and improving business results.

Space optimization

Finally, roofs are doing more than just protecting against inclement weather! If you have a large area in your home or business, you can make efficient use of it by installing solar panels and thus take advantage of that space, often forgotten, to generate free green energy. In large cities, available land is also a problem; in fact, many municipalities are already installing solar panels on the roofs of their public buildings to take advantage of these “surplus” surfaces.

Maintains competitiveness

Companies are quickly realizing the social and economic benefits of investing in renewable energies. As early adopters drive the industry forward, many companies are exploring photovoltaics as a way to stay on track for the future.

Just as the most polluting vehicles are increasingly excluded from city centers, the most polluting companies may also be removed from certain areas in the future. The road to sustainability is a milestone that no company will be able to skip.
